
Joshua Foss is a dynamic practitioner and ambassador for transformational design, having worked with some of the most innovative projects, developments and guiding philosophies on the planet. A strength of Joshua’s is his ability to creatively envision a future that is attractive, fair and sustainable. His work, simply put, is to design and communicate methodologies that move society directly towards this vision.
Foss, a LEED Accredited Professional, is principal of Thrive Design Studio, an international sustainable design and strategy consulting firm. Thrive has catered primarily towards the built environment, renovating private residences and small businesses through the utilization of innovative products and design methodologies. The firm has also worked in the strategic consulting realm, collaborating with organizations ranging from small startups to quarter billion dollar a year enterprises.
In addition to his work with Thrive, Joshua contributes remotely to Beyond Green, the UK’s premier sustainable design consultancy and development firm. He creates and delivers communication strategies for the group, helping to bring their ambitious work to life. Furthermore, Joshua is adjunct faculty at Minneapolis College of Art and Design and leads an Introduction to Sustainable Design course for their Sustainable Design Online master’s program. Lastly, Joshua has been an ambassador for the Living Building Challenge, the world’s most ambitious building certification standard.
Joshua carries a master’s degree in Strategic Leadership Towards Sustainability from the Blekinge Institute of Technology in Karlskrona, Sweden. The program was developed in partnership with The Natural Step Framework with the aim of building personal and collective capacity for transformational change.
On a side note, Joshua is a familiar face within various media outlets. He appeared on the second season of HGTV’s Design Star and hosted his own series on HGTV.com called Get Green. With his colorful and progressive voice, Foss has quickly made a name for himself as an international expert in sustainable development. Over the past 4 years, Joshua has led over 120 seminars at various consumer trade shows, conferences and summits throughout North America and Europe. He’s also been a guest contributor on almost 40 television spots, and has been profiled in countless print and online publications.
